Artista visual que trabaja cuestionando las relaciones entre el tiempo y el desplazamiento material del territorio por prácticas extractivistas. La yuxtaposición de materiales con los que trabaja expone la tensión entre lxs humanxs y su entorno, planteando narrativas y experiencias de las diferentes concepciones del tiempo y la construcción de la idea de futuro y ’progreso’. Parte de investigaciones sobre ecología, prácticas decolonizadoras y colaboración interdisciplinaria. Desarrolla sus proyectos en diversos medios como la instalación, performance, video y sonido.
Bachiller en Arte de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2008. Se graduó con distinción de la MLitt. Fine Art Practice en The Glasgow School of Art en el 2018 donde recibió el fondo de Sustainable Artistic Practices, SiAG Founding GSA. En el 2022 cursó el Diplomado de Arte Sonoro (virtual) en Tsonami Arte Sonoro en Valparaíso- Chile.
Ha sido invitada a la Bienal de La Habana, 2021-22 con su obra Al futuro se llega de espaldas. Ha realizado exposiciones individuales: Desbosque: desenterrando señales con FIBRA en el MAC-Lima, 2021, Unidad I: el Paraíso en la Galería Cecilia Gonzalez, 2015 y Levedad e Identidad en la Sala 770, 2012). Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en exposiciones colectivas y ha participado en residencias en Perú, Reino Unido y México entre las que destacan: Mujeres In Da House en C. Rafael Galván de la UAM en Ciudad de México, 2023, Hawapi – Máxima Acuña Cajamarca y Premio ICPNA Arte contemporáneo Lima, 2019, Relay en Tramway en Glasgow, 2019, Dar Forma al Tiempo en el MAC – Lima, 2019, entre otras.
Trabaja de forma colaborativa y ha desarrollado parte de su práctica como parte del colectivo de artistas:
Colectivo EMERGENTES (2010-2017) quienes realizaron intervenciones en espacio público, exposiciones colectivas y participaron en las residencias de Hawapi Pariacaca 2014 y Huepetuhe 2015; obras posteriores a las residencias fueron exhibidas en el MAC-Lima, Sala Luis Miró Quesada Garland y el C.C Qorikancha.
FIBRA, desde el 2019 co-fundó el colectivo de artistas mujeres quienes trabajan enfocadas en problemáticas medioambientales. Han recibido premios del Ministerio de Cultura del Perú en el 2019, premio francés de arte y ecología COAL en el 2021. Han participado en exposiciones colectivas y residencias en Lima y París y su trabajo se ha presentado su trabajo en charlas y diversas publicaciones nacionales e internacionales. Son miembras partners de Green Art Lab Allianace – GALA y de la Asociación de Mujeres Artistas del Perú – MAV – Perú.
Tabja también es docente y ha trabajado en distintas instituciones como colegios y escuelas de arte así como en la cárcel de mujeres, orfanatos y talleres de arte en comunidades vulnerables. Actualmente es docente en la especialidad de Pintura y de Grabado en Facultad de Arte y Diseño PUCP.
Visual artist who works questioning the relationships between time and the material displacement of the territory due to extractive practices. The juxtaposition of materials she works with exposes the tension between humans and their environment, creating narratives and experiences around different conceptions of time and the construction of the idea of future and ‘progress.’ Part of her research delves into ecology, decolonizing practices, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She develops her projects across various mediums such as installation, performance, video, and sound.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in 2008. She graduated with distinction from the MLitt. Fine Art Practice program at The Glasgow School of Art in 2018, where she received the Sustainable Artistic Practices Fund, SiAG Founding GSA. In 2022, she completed the Diploma in Sound Art (virtual) at Tsonami Arte Sonoro in Valparaíso, Chile.
She was invited to the Havana Biennial in 2021-22 with her work “Al futuro se llega de espaldas” (To the Future, We Arrive Backwards). She has held solo exhibitions, including “Desbosque: desenterrando señales” with FIBRA at MAC-Lima in 2021, “Unidad I: el Paraíso” at Galería Cecilia Gonzalez in 2015, and “Levedad e Identidad” at Sala 770 in 2012. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions and she has participated in residencies in Peru, the United Kingdom, and Mexico, including notable events like: “Mujeres In Da House” at C. Rafael Galván of UAM in Mexico City in 2023, “Hawapi – Máxima Acuña Cajamarca” and the ICPNA Contemporary Art Prize in Lima in 2019, “Relay” at Tramway in Glasgow in 2019, and “Dar Forma al Tiempo” at MAC-Lima in 2019, among others.
She works collaboratively and has been a part of the artist collective “Colectivo EMERGENTES” (2010-2017), which carried out interventions in public spaces, group exhibitions, and participated in residencies such as Hawapi Pariacaca 2014 and Huepetuhe 2015. Works created after these residencies were exhibited at MAC-Lima, Sala Luis Miró Quesada Garland, and the C.C Qorikancha.
Since 2019, she co-founded the women artists’ collective FIBRA, which focuses on environmental issues. They have received awards from the Ministry of Culture of Peru in 2019 and the French art and ecology award COAL in 2021. They have participated in group exhibitions and residencies in Lima and Paris, and their work has been presented in talks and various national and international publications. They are partnering members of the Green Art Lab Alliance – GALA and the Association of Women Artists of Peru – MAV – Peru.
Tabja is also a teacher and has worked in various institutions such as schools of art and in places like women’s prisons, orphanages, and art workshops in vulnerable communities. She is currently a teacher in the Painting and Printmaking departments at the Faculty of Art and Design at PUCP.
